Operational training

Train the operation before it begins

Full-mission simulation in Terneuzen and manned-model training at Port Revel make CRT handling, towage coordination and complex vessel operations tangible before live execution.

  • Full mission Immersive bridge simulation
  • Multi-vessel Shared scenarios in real time
  • Terneuzen Novatug and Multraship centre
  • Port Revel Physical manned-model training
From capability to practice

What does your team need to practise?

Choose the training environment around the decisions your team needs to make. Tug masters, pilots and project teams can focus on handling, coordination or a specific operation.

01

Crew familiarisation

Practise CRT handling and towline-force control in Terneuzen’s digital vessel model.

02

Pilot–tug coordination

Rehearse communication and ship–tug interaction together, in a shared digital scenario or with physical models on the water.

Project rehearsal

Prepare for a specific port operation with customised vessel models and scenarios in Terneuzen.

A high-fidelity digital CRT operating environment

Launched by Novatug and Multraship in 2026, the Wärtsilä-based centre combines full-mission simulation, mixed reality, project simulation and customised digital vessel models.

A high-fidelity digital model of the Carrousel Rave Tug supports tailored manoeuvring, towage and vessel-handling scenarios. Several participants can operate different vessels inside one shared scenario and coordinate in real time.

Simulator capabilities

Built around operational decisions

The centre supports both crew development and the preparation of complex projects before the vessels meet on the water.

Complex operational scenarios

Train for towing procedures, challenging navigational conditions, project towage and emergency response.

Shared multi-vessel training

Multiple participants coordinate several vessels in one scenario, reflecting the team structure of real operations.

Project preparation

Use customised vessel models for project simulation, port-operation assessments and scenarios ahead of live execution.

Operational trainers

Training is supported by active or recently active vessel captains who bring current onboard experience into the room.

Scenario control

Training can be observed, adjusted and reviewed

The instructor environment connects bridge teams, vessel models and scenario conditions. This allows trainers to introduce difficult situations that would be impractical to reproduce safely during normal operations.

Manned-model training at Port Revel

Port Revel in France includes a Carrousel Rave Tug in its scale-model fleet. Maritime pilots work aboard manned ship models while a professional tug master operates the radio-controlled CRT model in response to the pilot’s instructions.

The physical environment makes tow geometry, hydrodynamic effects and ship-tug coordination directly observable on the water. Port Revel is an independent training centre and manages its own courses and availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I train on the Carrousel Rave Tug?

In two places: the full-mission simulation centre in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, launched by Novatug and Multraship in 2026, and Port Revel in France, an independent training centre whose manned-model fleet includes a Carrousel Rave Tug.

What can be trained in the Terneuzen simulator?

Crew familiarisation with CRT handling and towline-force control, pilot–tug coordination, and rehearsal of specific port operations with customised vessel models. Scenarios cover towing procedures, challenging navigational conditions, project towage and emergency response. Several participants can operate different vessels in one shared scenario in real time.

Is the Terneuzen simulator certified?

Yes. The Wärtsilä-based simulator meets DNV certification requirements.

How does manned-model training at Port Revel work?

Maritime pilots work aboard manned ship models while a professional tug master operates a radio-controlled CRT model in response to the pilot's instructions. This makes tow geometry, hydrodynamic effects and ship–tug coordination directly observable on the water.

How do I arrange a training programme?

For Terneuzen, email the simulator team at simulator@novatug.nl with your training objective, participants, vessel or port scenario and preferred timing. Port Revel manages its own courses, so contact Port Revel directly for manned-model training.
