Data we process

Contact enquiries

When you use the contact form or contact us directly, we process the information you provide. This can include your name, email address, company, role, enquiry topic and message.

We use this information to answer your enquiry, prepare a relevant discussion, take requested steps before entering into a contract and manage any resulting business relationship. The legal basis is taking steps at your request before a contract, performance of a contract, or our legitimate interest in handling business enquiries, depending on the context.

Technical and usage data

When you use the website, our hosting and security providers may process technical data such as your IP address, browser and device information, requested URL, referring URL, date and time, browser language and country. This is used to deliver and secure the website, prevent abuse, diagnose faults and understand aggregate website use. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure and effective website.

Services used on this website

WordPress.com and Jetpack

The website is hosted on WordPress.com and uses Jetpack services supplied by Automattic. These services provide hosting, content delivery, security and performance monitoring.

Jetpack Stats visitor analytics is switched off on this website. Images are delivered through the WordPress.com image service, which receives the technical request data described above in order to serve the image.

Google Analytics

With your consent, this website uses Google Analytics 4, supplied by Google Ireland Limited, to understand how the website is used in aggregate: which pages are visited, how visitors arrive and which devices they use. The analytics script is not loaded until you accept statistics cookies, and no analytics data is collected if you decline.

Google Analytics processes a truncated IP address, device and browser information, pages visited, referring URL and interaction events, and stores an identifier on your device to recognise repeat visits. Novatug has accepted Google’s data processing terms, has disabled Google Signals and advertising personalisation, and retains analytics data for 14 months. The legal basis is your consent. You may withdraw it at any time using the control below.

Google may process data outside the European Economic Area. See the Google Privacy Policy.

More information is available in Automattic’s Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Jetpack privacy information.

YouTube

Video previews are served through the WordPress.com image service. A YouTube player is loaded only after you choose to play a video. The player uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain. Google may then process technical and usage data under its own terms. See the Google Privacy Policy.

Because nothing is requested from YouTube until you press play, the video player is not part of the cookie banner: your click is what permits it to load. A notice next to each video states this before you click. If you never play a video, YouTube is never contacted.

OpenStreetMap

Incident pages in the maritime wiki can show a location map supplied by the OpenStreetMap Foundation. As with video, the map is loaded only after you press “Show map”, and a notice states this before you click. If you do not request the map, OpenStreetMap is never contacted. When you do, OpenStreetMap receives your IP address and technical request data under its own privacy terms.

Cloudflare Turnstile

The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, supplied by Cloudflare, Inc., to tell human visitors from automated spam. Turnstile loads only on the contact page. When the page loads, and again when you submit the form, Cloudflare receives technical data such as your IP address, browser and device information and signals about how the browser behaves, and returns a result that we check before accepting your enquiry. Turnstile is not used for advertising or tracking across websites. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the contact form secure and free of abuse.

Cloudflare may process data outside the European Economic Area. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

External and social-media links

The website links to external websites and Novatug profiles on services including LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. A link does not load a social-media widget. When you follow a link, the external provider processes your visit under its own privacy terms. Novatug is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of external websites.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored by a website in your browser. Similar technologies include pixels and scripts that measure page use without necessarily storing a cookie.

  • Your display preferences: when you switch the site between light and dark appearance, your browser stores that choice locally under the name nova-theme. A related entry, nt-force-motion, records whether you have asked the site to play animations that are otherwise reduced. Both are stored only in your own browser, are never sent to Novatug or anyone else, and exist solely to apply the setting you chose. You can clear them through your browser settings.
  • Required services: WordPress.com and Jetpack may use cookies needed for security, network operation and authenticated sessions. The exact cookies depend on how you interact with the website.
  • Embedded video (your click): YouTube is contacted only after you press play on a video, and may then use cookies or similar storage. This is not covered by the cookie banner because nothing loads until you choose it.
  • Spam protection (contact page): Cloudflare Turnstile runs on the contact page to protect the form from abuse. It is a security function and is not used for statistics or advertising.
  • Statistics (consent required): Google Analytics, as described above. Not loaded unless you accept.

Novatug uses no advertising or marketing cookies. The full list of cookies currently in use, including their names, purposes and durations, is below.

Changing or withdrawing your choice

You can change your consent at any time, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it. Use the control below, or the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page.

You can remove or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking required cookies may affect parts of the website. Current information about WordPress.com and Jetpack cookies is available in Automattic’s Cookie Policy.

Sharing and international processing

We share personal data only where needed with service providers that support our website, security, communications and business operations, or where the law requires it. Contact-form submissions are stored in the website’s administration area, sent to Novatug by email and are not published.

Some providers, including Automattic, Google and Cloudflare, may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where required, such transfers must be covered by an applicable adequacy decision or other safeguards recognised under data-protection law.

Retention and security

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, any resulting business relationship, and applicable legal, accounting or dispute-resolution requirements. Contact enquiries that do not lead to an ongoing relationship are removed when they are no longer reasonably needed. Provider logs are kept according to the relevant provider’s retention schedule.

We use appropriate organisational and technical measures to protect personal data. No internet service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or portability of your personal data. You may also object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

Send a request to info@novatug.nl. We may ask for information needed to verify your identity. We will respond without undue delay and in principle within one month.

You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Automated decisions and children

Novatug does not use website data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects. The website and its contact form are intended for business and professional audiences, not children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the website, our services or legal requirements change. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
