Narrative
On 6 June 2007, Glenshiel was towing a barge in Nakwakto Rapids, Seymour Inlet, British Columbia. The tug girded, capsized and rapidly sank. The TSB identifies this event as occurrence M07W0072 in its historical girding list. TSB M18P0230, Appendix B, p. 35
The Russel Brothers historical vessel archive also records the sinking on 6 June 2007 and reports no fatalities. It identifies Glenshiel as the former naval tug Glenora, later named Lotbiniere, built in 1943 and registered in Canada as 176554. The TSB’s 2007–08 annual report links M07W0072 to subsequent beacon-registration safety action. The National Search and Rescue Secretariat, Transport Canada and Canadian Coast Guard sent 10,000 registration reminders to vessel owners, and a maintenance plan was developed for regular Beacon Registry updates.
