Why it matters

The Ovit and Kaami reports show overlapping but distinct ECDIS-related failure modes:

  • Ovit: an unsafe route was followed, the chart scale was inappropriate, and key alarms and settings were ineffective.
  • Kaami: the route plan, safety contour settings, and route-safety checks were deficient from the planning stage onward.
